Norwood Road Pavement Beds:
SE27 Street Gardens
In collaboration with Open Orchard and funded by Station to Station, the business improvement district of SE27, we have been replanting and maintaining the nine pavement beds along Norwood Road. These beds were created in 2021 to make a greener and healthier high road. However, many plants failed in the drought of 2022 and also due to human trampling and dog pee. By the start of 2024 the beds had huge bare patches and were beginning to negatively impact the street view.
Working with Open Orchard, we have been facilitating regular volunteer gardening sessions and this year local businesses and local people have begun to engage with the beds. We are often thanked by passersby when we are gardening.
We also offer an eco watering service to maintain the new plants whilst they establish. This is a tailored spot watering…no wasteful watering of established drought tolerant plants. This is delivered in collaboration with local e-bike courier business, Hugo’s Eco Delivery.
